Fear and the Inner Battle

When we are born we are without emotions, desires, bravery, courage and on the opposite spectrum without fear. Fear is learned, as are all of our emotions. Some fear is legitimate and a good thing in certain situations, as a warning signal in bad places, in confrontation, etc. But once you learn to avoid that situation, or conquer that situation you won’t need to live in fear of it.

Let me give you a classic example of how paralyzing and stifling fear is to many. Let’s say I have a 2″x12″ board about 30 ft. long and you come into my home and see the board laying on the carpet in my great room. I have lying on one end of that board a $50 dollar bill, and say if you can walk one foot in front of the other to the other end of the board without stepping off onto the carpet, you can have the $50, well most of us could easily do that as 1 ft. is plenty of room for us to walk on one foot after another. But let’s now say that I take that board and one end of it is placed on the edge of a roof about 30′ in the air and the other placed on a scaffold. The $50 is still on the other end being weighted down by a small stone just in case of some wind, even thinking of this as a person reads this inflects fear and to many that $50 would stay on that board!

Fear, if left unchecked, can destroy us. Fear also is closely related to other internal enemies, (and by the way most of these consume our ‘inner self talk’: timidity, apathy or indifference, and worry all halt our personal growth, development and abilities to be all that we were destined to be!

Scripture tells US as created beings; … ‘God has not given us a spirit of Fear or Timidity, but of Power, Love and a Sound Mind’

It is a well-documented belief by experts in the psychology and human development field that our most dominant thoughts manifest themselves in our behavior and in our lives. This is why our fears sometimes seem to overtake us because we are constantly thinking about the fear, as opposed to the outcome that we desire! Ancient scripture again gives us some insight into this phenomena, ‘What ever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything is worthy of praise, dwell your thoughts on these things’

This is amazing because what we put in, is what comes out in addition our thoughts are things, which greatly affect our lives and the outcome of our lives, so by concentrating our thoughts on the positive, and on the objective as opposed to the things we don’t want to happen to us, and by re-recording our internal speak we can affect great change in our lives and overcome some of the fears that may be holding us back from that big break-though that we are so earnestly desiring!
